叶片一回羽状，羽片披针形，微有缺刻或羽状浅裂或羽裂达羽片中部；侧脉不分 叉，基部一对或上侧一条叶脉较短，只伸达羽片中部。孢子囊群有盖少有无盖。
模式种: 毛柄鳞毛蕨Dryopteris hirtipes (Bl.) O. Ktze
全世界约22种, 主要分布东亚、南亚，中国、日本为分布中心。中国有19种。
